The Holocaust and its devastating effects we never be dismissed from the minds of man. It is not possible to forget such an event. And it should not be forgotten. It is of the utmost importance that is remembered. People must know that there is evil in the world, and it is of equal importance that people understand that evil alone can not succeed. Evil can only destroy what the righteous allow it to destroy. The only thing that allows evil in the world is the lack of action from good and just people. The Holocaust shocked the world in the 1940s because it could not be believed that good people would remain silent and allow the Nazis to accomplish their evil goals. The Holocaust must be remembered to prevent good people from allowing the evil to lead.
Hitler was able to accomplish his evil goals only through force. He applied force to both civilian life and the military. His use of force in the military and his tactics of blitzkrieg proved to be successful at first. Hitler's armies were able to capture most of Europe before the tide of the war changed to the Allies favor. Blitzkrieg was successful because it relied on having more resources and manpower than the enemies. Military strategies have relied on having more soldiers, weapons, resources, and land for ages. Hitler's "lightning war" was not the first to utilize these techniques. Blitzkrieg failed only because Germany opened a second front against the Soviet Union. It was evident that the best way to attack Russia would be by an indirect route through North Africa. This plan was obvious and was foreseen by the British and United States forces. The Allies then could stop the Germans from a successful attack of the Soviet Union. Once a second front was opened, Germany was no longer able to outnumber their enemies, which defeated the entire purpose of the blitzkrieg strategy. If Hitler had not attacked the Soviet Union, or at least have postponed the attack after a victory on the eastern front, the war might have ended with a Nazi victory.
Hitler made many military decisions that proved to be successful, but also made many military mistakes that lost the war for the Third Reich. Hitler strategy worked until he focused the majority of his attention towards his genocidal plans and a war with the Soviet Union. Hitler's obsession with
Lebensraum, or living space for the German people, became another problem. He ordered his troops to stay in fight in newly occupied lands instead of retreating which would have preserved his forces and allowed him to retake the land again later. He also insisted on offensive strategies to solve military problems when he did not have enough soldiers to complete his goal.
Hitler's quest for world domination failed only because of his paranoia and his own inabilities, not because of the German military or the tactics of blitzkrieg.
